Dipping my pinky in baking!!

Been taking a keen interest on baking lately. Good thing? No?

Well, some say it is a stress reliever, for me, even more stress! Kan chiong only… cant help but wondering will the cake turn out alright? When it failed (obviously it did.. 1st time was cookies, then orange cake… both disastrous).

However, I find it quite fun. Playing masak masak makes me feel so grown up! Oh wait.. I am grown up.. dang!

Well anyways, my 2nd attempt on baking, tried a chocolate cake. Got this recipe from Kuali.com. Amazingly.. it turned out alright!! YIPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE… anyone wants to buy my cake now????

or anyone wants to hire me to work in your bakery/hotel? *PS: my resume has only 1 failed chocolate chop cookie, 1 failed orange cake and 1 alright chocolate cake. So any takers? 😛

So here is the fabulous recipe!!~~!!~~!!

Recipe by Amy BehType of Dish: Bread, cakes and cookies
Cooking Method: Bake

  • 175g butter
  • 370g soft brown sugar
  • 3 eggs(A)
  • 1 tsp instant coffee powder + 1 tsp hot water, mixed to dissolve the coffee granules
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp rum liqueur
  • 1 tsp chocolate emulco(B)
  • 220g plain flour
  • 30g cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • 200ml waterMethod
    Preheat oven to 170°C degrees C. Grease and line a 22–23cm round cake pan with greaseproof paper. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. AddBeat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.Stir in combined essences (A) until well mixed. Fold in sifted ingredients (B), alternating it with water. Turn mixture into prepared pan. Bake for 50–60 minutes or until cake is cooked through when tested with a skewer.
